Principal and CEO

Originally from Wales, Darryl is married to Milagros and is the father of two children, both of whom attended the school. Darryl began his career as a secondary school teacher in Kenya, but has spent the last thirty years working in and leading international schools in Kenya, Venezuela and the USA before taking up his current post as Principal in August 2012.

An IB North America workshop leader (Mathematics), academy member and accreditation officer (IB, CIS and AdvancED), Darryl balances his work in education with a passion for rugby; continually trying, and occasionally succeeding, in dispelling the myth that he is too old to play. Darryl speaks English and Spanish.

Rob was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, where he graduated from Deakin University with a B.Ed., B.App.Sc. (Hons.) and a M.App.Sc. in Leadership. Initially he taught in schools in Melbourne and then lectured at Tertiary level to B.Ed. students. For the past 22 years Rob has been living and teaching in the Caribbean. He has held senior leadership positions in IB World Schools in the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands and Barbados, including Head of School roles at both Primary and Secondary level. Outside of school, Rob’s interests include health & fitness, travel, photography, and Caribbean history & culture.

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Nicola lived in Europe, Canada and the United States before moving to Barbados in 1998.

Nicola holds a PhD in English in which she specialized in modern American literature and has taught at The Codrington School for the past 12 years. Previously Nicola held the role of MYP Coordinator and has been involved with Model United Nations, debate and drama. She is fascinated by the learning journey and sees the essence of education as a transformative process. Her aim is to enable Codrington students to become not only informed scholars, but genuinely curious thinkers, compassionate citizens and lifelong learners.

Kirsty was born in England. She has been teaching for 10 years, has worked in schools in the UK and comes to Codrington from The International School of Milan, Italy.

She has a passion for learning and, although her main love is English, she also enjoys exploring Drama and Film and has taken part in a number of amateur dramatic productions. In her spare time, Kirsty enjoys reading, traveling and trying new things.

Tanner was born in Canada, growing up in the city of Calgary, Alberta. After graduating from the University of Alberta, he moved abroad to start his teaching career. Tanner comes to Barbados having spent the past seven years teaching in England, and IB schools in China and Japan.

As a physical and health education teacher, Tanner believes in creating meaningful experiences through student choice, promoting lifelong interest in physical activity and health initiatives. Outside of work, he enjoys pursuing a range of outdoor activities including golf, hiking, surfing and reading a book on a patio.

Becky has been a Primary trained teacher for 15 years, with a B.A in Education (Hons.), a Masters in Education focusing on Elementary Maths and a TEFL and TESOL Scholar certificate from the University of Cambridge.

Over the past 8 years, Becky has been employed in IB World Schools in Dubai, British Virgin Islands and Italy, where she has held various teaching and Middle Leadership roles, of which Approaches to Learning Skills Lead was one of her most enjoyable and added a more creative and rounded approach to her teaching.

During her time as a Senior Leader and PYP Coordinator at the International School of Como, Becky has had the opportunity to develop her passion for curriculum design, mentoring and leadership.
Becky is committed to encouraging students to develop a sense of belonging and independence through collaboration and inquiry, with a multi-faceted focus on personal, local and global connections to become  lifelong learners as they navigate the world and explore the opportunities it has to offer.

Ron was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio in the United States. He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Mathematics Education. Ron taught for 27 yrs in the US before beginning his international teaching adventure. He is coming to us from the Pechersk School International in Ukraine.

In addition to teaching, Ron coached varsity boys basketball and was the assistant coach for Math Counts. Ron understands the struggles that some students go through with maths because he experienced them also and that is why he feels he is a perfect fit to teach the subject. Ron is excited about “living” the island life with his wife, Betsy, and their two dogs, Bucky and Wanda. Ron is a comic book collector and big Marvel fan, he also enjoys movies, puzzles, and all things nerdy.

Aditya was born and brought up in Kolkata, India. With a Masters degree in Economics, Aditya has worked across the world in the US, EMEA, APAC regions. Exposure to various cultures awakened in him the passion of nurturing young minds into becoming global citizens of the world. Aditya did his teaching certification from Moreland University and is licensed to teach in the states of Washington and Arizona.
When not shaping young minds, you can find Aditya playing football or discovering new music. These experiences enrich his teaching style, allowing him to bring a tapestry of experiences and perspectives to the classroom

Ada is Australian, of Chinese origin. After receiving a bachelor degree in Primary Education (Early Years Education) from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, she has lived and worked in various countries, including the USA, the UK, Indonesia, Russia and Egypt. Living and teaching overseas impacted her teaching practices positively in many ways and she is passionate about learning through inquiry and fostering a classroom of risk-takers and open-minded children.
Outside the classroom, Ada likes to travel, read and engage in any aerial related activities such as aerial yoga, aerial silks and aerial hoop. She particularly enjoys going to places where the sun is shining and the waves are crashing on the beach. She loves floating on top of the sea on a paddle board or a kayak, and more recently started taking up windsurfing lessons which she is excited about as Barbados is the perfect spot for it.

Peggy has been teaching for the past eighteen years, thirteen of which have been within the International Baccalaureate PYP Programme.  Before coming to Barbados in 2006, Peggy taught at the Luiz Munoz-Marin Elementary School in Brooklyn, New York, where she taught for five years.

Her philosophy of education is that all children are unique and as such should be taught in an environment where they can grow and build upon their prior knowledge in order to reach their full potential.  Peggy is a mother of two beautiful girls and enjoys spending every spare moment she can with them. She also enjoys making cold process soap, candles, photography and listening to music.

She returned to Canada to complete her teaching degree and spent the past 13 years teaching in the small town where she grew up. In addition to obtaining her Mathematics Specialist, she is also a qualified French Language teacher.

Building a connection with her school and local community has always been important to Barbara. Through athletics and community theatre, she has had many opportunities to build strong relationships with her students and neighbours. Barbara is very much looking forward to teaching in the PYP classroom and feels that it is the perfect fit for her.

Got married and moved to Barbados where I volunteered at the Drakes Christian School for Special Needs. Started working at The Codrington School in 2016 as a Teacher’s Assistant and now I’m working in the Learning Support Department. Carla was born and raised in The Bahamas on Grand Bahama Island. She commenced her PYP teaching career 16 years ago as one of the inaugural teachers at an International Baccalaureate school on Grand Bahama and has spent the majority of her teaching career in the Pre-K and Kindergarten year levels.

Carla has been a passionate advocate for the Primary Years Programme since she was first introduced to it because it capitalizes on children’s natural curiosity towards learning and because it focuses on the development of the whole child. Some of her proudest moments in teaching have been watching former students work their way through the various year levels to graduate with the I.B. Diploma. Carla’s hobbies outside school include soccer, tap dancing, listening to music and traveling. She was fortunate to combine two of those passions when she represented the Bahamian National Soccer Team in international tournaments in the Dominican Republic, Bermuda and the U.S.A.

Allie was born and raised in Maryland, USA. She studied at Towson University where she earned a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught preschool and kindergarten for five years in the United States. After deciding to teach abroad, she relocated to Belgium. There she spent two years teaching Pre-K and one year teaching Grade One. After living in Belgium for three years, she thought it was time for a change, so she began her new teaching journey in Barbados in August 2019.

Since she began teaching at The Codrington School, she has taught PYP3 for three years, and then began teaching PYP8. Her favorite things about living in Barbados are the beaches, the food, the music, and being a part of both local and international communities. In her free time, she enjoys working out, reading, being outdoors, traveling, and teaching Zumba classes to adults and children.

Renee was born and raised in St. Michael, Barbados. She graduated from Garrison Secondary School and then completed her Bachelor of Primary Education and Early Years Level I & II Teaching Certificates at Erdiston Teacher’s College. Renee has 12 years experience in education and has filled a number of important roles throughout her time at Codrington. Among those roles she has taught Language & Literacy from PYP 1 to PYP 8 level and has taught in both the PYP 1 and PYP 2 classrooms. Outside of school Renee enjoys swimming, spinning, reading and music.

Lloyd was born and raised in the New Forest in England. He has been teaching since 2004, in that time he has taught in England and internationally in Kuwait, Dubai (UAE) and Romania (before coming to Barbados) teaching both the English curriculum and the IB DP programme.

Lloyd is a graduate of the University of the West of England where he got a BA (hons) in History and Geography and PGSE in Secondary History. In addition to teaching History, he has taught a range of Individuals and Societies subjects such as geography, politics, and citizenship. In his career he has also been a form tutor, CAS advisor, subject leader, head of department and in his last post was Extended Essay Coordinator.

Lloyd is a self-confessed History geek and really enjoys learning about aspects of the past he had not studied before. He believes that an understanding of the past is vital to understand the world that we live in now. 

In his spare time, he likes to learn new languages on Duolingo (currently he is learning Romanian), he has been learning to ski, travelling as well as reading History books. In Barbados he is hoping to be able to play cricket and rugby again as well as exploring the island and the region.

Born in Glasgow. Raised in the rain. After short careers in Insurance and Pest Control I started teaching 25 years ago. Most of that time was spent in the South West of England but more recently Edinburgh and Milan. As well as a Biology teacher I am a qualified Sports coach and a player of the bagpipes. I am a convert to the theory of Re-Wilding and Trophic Cascades. I enjoy golf, rugby, running and hiking and I am looking forward to swimming in the sea.

Paula was born and raised in Spain but has lived abroad for over 17 years (England and Barbados).
Paula holds a degree in English studies and a Master´s degree in Teaching Spanish as a second language from the International University Menéndez Pelayo (Spain). She has been teaching Spanish for over 15 years at different universities in Spain, England and Barbados.

She has wide research background on second language acquisition and learning.

Since her daughter Mia born, she has directed her teaching interest on Primary and Secondary Education with a Master´s in Secondary Education from Universidad Atlántico Norte, (Spain) and taking her to the Codrington School and the IB world.

Vanessa graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2002. She has a bachelor’s degree in Science Education, which qualifies her to teach anything from Chemistry to Biology
Vanessa is a passionate educator with 20 years of experience. She specializes in teaching Science at a middle and high school level. Over the years she has taught in several IB international schools in Latin America. She has also been the head of the Science department in 2 schools. She believes in developing her students’ experimental skills through meaningful lab activities and field work. Vanessa loves working with teenagers.

While I was born in Montana, I was raised in Spokane and thus call Washington my home state. I have my BA in English Teaching and my MA in Rhetoric and Composition. I’m fortunate to have obtained both of my degrees from Boise State University, where I lived for six years and spent most of my time teaching high school English, coaching volleyball, going to school, and getting my yoga teaching certificate.
Since then, I’ve taught ENL in Thailand and AP Language and Composition in Seattle, Washington. When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy teaching yoga, running, playing volleyball, and road cycling. For now, I’m happy to call Barbados and Codrington my new home.

Born on the Isle of Wight, just off the south coast of England,
David has a good knowledge of island life and enjoys being by the water and outdoors. As a keen sportsman he will try his hand at anything competitive and is a single figure golfer.

After completing his PostGraduate at Edge Hill University near Liverpool, David began his teaching career in a primary school where he taught all age groups at various points. He had a particular interest in special needs and behaviour and soon moved to a secondary school that catered for students with additional needs. During this time, he had many roles including Head of Maths and Computing and was part of the wellbeing team.

He has always desired to work abroad though and so jumped at the chance to work at the Codrington School. As an aspiring leader he is very excited to continue to broaden his knowledge of curriculums and teaching styles to best support students.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Ashleigh brings a wealth of international experience, design knowledge, and a passion for education to our school. She graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Visual Culture and Communication and earned a Digital Technology Diploma from Sheridan College. Ashleigh further enhanced her teaching credentials with a Postgraduate Degree in Education (Technology) from the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia.

Ashleigh’s teaching journey began in Korea, where she moved for the first time shortly after university to teach English. Since then, she has lived and taught in Australia, Korea, Kuwait, Japan, and again in Korea teaching middle and high school art and design in the international school setting. This has helped enrich her teaching practice with diverse cultural experiences over the years.

In addition to her teaching career, Ashleigh is an avid swimmer and has coached swimming, one of her lifelong passions. She also enjoys photography, creating art, and learning new things to enhance her practice. Recently, she has been expanding her expertise through courses in physical design and engineering.

Charlotte was born and raised in the north of England. She began learning French and Spanish at school at the age of 11, and has never stopped. Her first foray into living abroad was at the age of 20, in Mexico, followed by two stints in Spain (Zaragoza and Toledo) and two in Paris. Charlotte has been teaching for 12 years; the first 10 in England and the latter 2 in the Caribbean.

As well as being Head of Modern Foreign Languages for many years, Charlotte has been a form tutor right across the secondary age range, and was previously Student Wellbeing Lead. She is passionate about the pastoral side of teaching, and is looking forward to joining The Codrington Family.

Charlotte is eager to continue her Caribbean adventure and immerse herself into Bajan life. She has designs on completing her second sea swim and learning to play the steel pan. A fish and vegetable lover, Charlotte will be found at Oistins every Friday and at Brighton Market every Saturday!

Charlotte is a massive Newcastle United fan, and spends her free time underwater, watching – not playing! – sport, cooking, eating, dancing to soca music, and booking her next trip.

Michelle was born and raised in Queensland, Australia. She completed her Bachelor of Business Management and Bachelor of Arts undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland.

Then moved to Sydney to complete her PGCE in Education, where she started her teaching career. Michelle has taught in both public comprehensive and IB schools in the USA, UK, Brazil, Zambia and most recently Indonesia. Dario, our IT Guru, joined The Codrington Team in December 2015. He brought with him a wealth of experience as an IT Technician and Network Administrator. Having worked in five star resorts locally and regionally his knowledge is invaluable. Dario is also a proud parent of a lovely little girl, an avid car enthusiast and actively involved in the community.

Born and raised in Barbados, Diana moved to the UK to further her education. After completing her A-levels, she obtained an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Kingston University and a Masters degree in Psychotherapy from Roehampton University. During this time she continued to study one of her passions – ballet. She also took the opportunity to travel. Some of her favourite places include India, Iceland and Barcelona.

Diana returned to Barbados to raise her daughter and has worked in Barbados privately as a Psychotherapist.

Ms. Sabrina, is the Office Manager and our School Nurse.
Sabrina is fluent in Spanish, embraces her culture and is passionate about education, student safety and health. She is supportive and nurturing to each of our students. Her philosophy is ‘one should never stop learning – there is so much yet to explore.

Sabrina specialized in Design and Illustration, holding a Graphic Design Degree from the Collage of West Palm Beach in Florida and assists with all of the school’s graphics.

In her free time, she enjoys horse riding, taking her dogs to the beach and having fun with family and friends.

PAULETTE VAUGHN🇧🇧
PAULETTE VAUGHN🇧🇧Business Manager
Born in Barbados, Paulette has about thirty years of experience in accounting and administration, twelve
of which were spent in Caricom.
Her early career started in the Tourism Industry after she completed a 2-year Diploma in Tourism at the
Barbados Community College. Upon leaving that industry she earned the Certified Administrative
Managers Certification and started studying with CGA Canada.

Paulette relocated to the USA where she commenced studies at the City University of New York for a BSc. in Accounting with CPA option.
On returning to Barbados she held positions such as Accounting Officer and Assistant Accountant in the project management, retail, and manufacturing sectors.

Paulette is a lover of classical music and has earned up to Grade 5 in Music Theory from the Royal School of Music. She has also studied project management and variety of computer applications and was a Word-Processing Tutor for about five years.

Ms. Dawn, a proud Barbadian and our Facilities Manager, ensures the school looks and operates at its’ best. Having studied at The Barbados Community College, Dawn is very detail oriented and takes immense pride in her work.

She is also the  leader of our Duke of Edinburgh’ Program and on the Award Council and Expedition Panel. Dawn wears many ‘hats’ and is always willing to assist with a smile.
