The Codrington School - The International School of Barbados

Summer Reading Lists

As the end of the school year approaches and we think towards the coming academic year, our goal is always to have our students fully prepared and ready to “hit the ground running” with respect to their new grades/classes.
Reading is one of the key core skills, research is clear that children who do not read during the summer can go on a “summer slide” with regards to their reading progress.
As a result, The Codrington School encourages each student to read widely throughout the year and especially over the summer months.
Summer reading and other intellectual activities serve to stimulate, to enrich and to reinforce academic skills during the summer hiatus from formal schooling.
The goals for the summer reading program are to generate interest and a pleasure in reading, expand cultural literacy and to encourage a life-long love of reading.
Please see below the Summer Reading guidelines for both Primary School and Secondary School.
Note that summer reading in the Secondary school if for English and a student’s second language (Spanish or French).
